Call for Performing Artists – Music

South Dallas Cultural Center is seeking proposals from performing artists to produce music concerts for the SDCC Music Lounge.  This is a paid performance opportunity.

The SDCC Music Lounge is a music experience featuring local Dallas artists performing music birthed from African / African American Culture. These events are small, intimate and partially FREE music sessions (30-100 people) for the Dallas community and designed to provide access to art for those who wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford the price of a ticket.

In the past, we’ve feature artists like Hathor Hendrix, Buffalo Black, Herbie Johnson, Zo! and Carmen Rodgers, Nubia and South Dallas Concert Choir with music presentations ranging from Spirituals to Hip Hop. We are looking for artist for the following months:

  • March 2019 – Black Women’s Month
  • April 2019 –   Dallas Arts Month
  • May 2019 –    Black Men’s Month

Our Venue

South Dallas Cultural Center’s mission is to provide instruction and enrichment in the performing, literary, media and visual arts with emphasis on the African contribution to world culture.

Our unique facility is located at the corner of Robert B. Cullum and S. Fitzhugh, next door to Fair Park featuring a black box theater that accommodates up to 120 seated patrons (depending upon stage and seating configuration).

  • Seating fixed on a rise; flexible on floor level.
  • Two off-stage dressing rooms.
  • Professional 16-channel sound system
  • Professional 70-channel lighting system
  • Large projector and projection screen.
  • Lobby area available for receptions


  • Artist submitting proposals must currently live in the DFW or Greater North Texas region.
  • Proposals must feature music from genres birthed from African diasporic cultural traditions.

Marketing and Outreach

  • We will work with you on promotion materials and provide support in sending information about the event to our media contacts and through social media.
  • We will include information about performances in our monthly newsletter and e-blast.
  • List events on our website.

All proposals must be submitted to:

All proposals will be considered for one-time performances only. With your proposals, please include:

  • Statement of purpose.
  • Artist or organizational resume or biography.
  • Examples of work (photos, CDs, DVDs, links to online photos or clips, etc.)
  • Promotional materials (jpg. or png.)

Submission Deadline:                              Monday, January 28, 2019

Selection Notification:                            Friday, February 15, 2019 (after 6pm)

Artist selected to perform will be informed via email.
