Ndebele Art

\######

The Ndebele are a Bantu-speaking people of southwesternΒ Zimbabwe. Their art, created primarily by women, consists of rich and vibrant patterns. The artists use art supplies provided by the environment; water and soil for pigment and chicken feathers for paint brushes.

The Ndebele people paint the exterior of their homes in patterns communicating rituals and rites of passages. They adorn their bodies with intricate beadwork to express cultural stages and identity.
