Pastor’s Paradox

As part of our 20th International Performance Festival, Teatro Dallas and the Juanita Craft Civil Rights House & Museum presented Cuban-born jazz pianist Aruán Ortiz and his quartet in a 25-minute preview of “Pastor’s Paradox” on Thursday, Feb. 10.

“Pastor’s Paradox” is a jazz conversation about art and activism in celebration of the lives of Ms. Juanita Craft and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and their relationship between their work and the current American moment. Its presentation in Dallas is the culmination of a prestigious South Arts Foundation grant, which will incorporate Dallas’ young performers in its final movement. Long-term supporter Vicki Meek was gracious for helping us host this important conversation.

Pianist, violist, and composer Aruán Ortiz has been an active figure in the progressive jazz and avant-garde scene in the US for more than 15 years.
