Dance.Act.Sing: In the Heights

In the first section of this workshop students will take part in an IN THE HEIGHTS themed dance/movement class lead by Michael Childs and Nitzia Martinez, who has also appeared on stages all over the DFW metroplex. This Latin flavored choreography comes right from the streets of Mexico, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. All skill levels are welcomed.

In this special Vocal Master Class Mr. Childs will work with each student on audition technique and song interpretation. We will focus on giving actors the opportunity to bring their audition and performance skills to the next level and how to better connect to their audition material. Students will need 1 musical theatre or pop/rock audition song in the style of the show in the correct key. We will only be focusing on ONE 16/32 bar musical cut in this class. Singing from the show is encouraged but not required. If possible please have a second song to be used as back up. Sheet music should be 3- hole punched and in a binder. Accompanist will be provided.

In our interactive Acting workshop, we will explore what a monologue is, how to find a stimulus for your monologue and you’ll have a go at writing and performing a monologue of your own. We will explore the lives and motivations of Usnavi, Nina, Vanessa and all the other colorful characters in Washington Heights. As we discover things about them, we will uncover things about ourselves. This class will give shape and depth to your audition, and the confidence to make bold choices in the room where it happens.
