Beckles Dancing Company

Beckles Dancing Company provides a platform where performers and audiences of all ages inspire to celebrate the techniques, creative powers and fusion of dance movement.

Beckles Dancing Company (BDC) was founded in May 1995 by AndrΓΒ© R. George, a talented dancer, teacher, and choreographer whose career spanned the U.S., Europe, and the Caribbean. Originally named nova Γ’β¬Β¦ dancersΓ’β¬β’ company!, the ensemble debuted in November 1995 at the Theatre on Elm Street (ToES) in Dallas, TX. Following GeorgeΓ’β¬β’s passing in 1996, Loris Anthony Beckles took over leadership, renaming it Nova Dancing Company before officially adopting the name Beckles Dancing Company on April 1, 2004. Despite this change, the legal name remains ARGA NOVA DANCE, with the new name honoring BecklesΓ’β¬β’ fiftieth birthday, his recovery from a major health crisis, and his family heritage. Since its founding, BDC has performed across Texas in venues such as the Nasher Sculpture Center, Dallas Museum of Art, South Dallas Cultural Center, and Houston Community College Central, as well as at festivals and collaborations with groups like Momentum Dance Company and the Houston Black Dance Festival. Additionally, the AndrΓΒ© R. George Association (ARGA), established in 1997, supports and promotes dance, arts, and community-building initiatives in memory of GeorgeΓ’β¬β’s legacy.
